W. House Project

My friend Amanda and her family have recently purchased this new (older) home!  Congratulations Amanda!  She was nice enough to give me permission to swoop in and photograph/blog about her changes, updates, remodeling, sweat and tears (ok maybe no photographs of the tears) but hopefully some great insight into turning this house into their own little sanctuary.  A little background on this house is that it was built in the 1968, and is about 4200 square feet if you include the unfinished basement and is located in Rock Hill, SC.  It has a huge screened in porch at the back of the house and it has a full basement which will be mostly remodeled and finished off and a second floor which has two bedrooms and a play area.

It will be difficult for me to post all the pictures on this page since on a blog site you can really only post on one page (if someone knows how I can change that let me know), so I'll be posting the majority of the pictures on the home page and just linking them here.  I love home improvement stuff so I hope you'll follow along.

Here's a site that Amanda got me hooked on if you're interested in this type of thing:

We've had some updates on the new (older) house project.  Amanda has been busy painting and rehanging fixtures and LOTS of other bigger projects (like re-doing the ducting for the a/c - not planned) in her new house.  Here are a couple of quick pictures I took the last time I was there.

 Old fixture on the left.

New fixture on the right.

Also a fresh coat of pain in this room (dining room).  Went from a green to a soft grey color.

I can't find a good "before" picture, sorry. She added some artwork and made this space inviting.

I love what she did here, painted the red in the back and it really makes the shelves pop.  This is in their breakfast room.

The basement is really coming together now.  The corner of the basement has been transformed into a downstairs kitchen/bar area.  There is no sink but as you can see there is a refrigerator and plenty of drink ware.  The red cabinets were from Ikea and super easy to install.

Before this update the floors were a regular cement floor (gray) and the brick walls were white but badly in need of paint.  They've added the curtain to block off the laundry area.  The black free standing bar is in place as well.  They did have some water issues on the floor recently with a bad rainstorm so that is why there is a fan, broom, and step stool there.  Also the rocking chair has been moved just to dry the floors a little.

Love the painted brown floors here.  She did tell me that they are easily scratched so they are careful not to slide anything across the floors.

I believe some of the upcoming plans for this area include some additional paint on the walls with some more furniture to fill in the rest of the basement area (which is now pretty much empty).  More photo's to come when that happens.
